Company and government leaders await the public announcement of Intralox’s $60 million investment to expand its Hammond facility by 300,000 square feet. The announcement was made on Thursday, the company’s 50th anniversary.

Intralox celebrated its 50th anniversary Thursday by announcing plans to invest $60 million in an expansion that will more than double the size of its Hammond manufacturing facility.

The expansion will add 300,000 square feet to the current 130,000-square-foot space located just off Highway 190. The Hammond facility, which produces the modular plastic conveyor belts used in food, industrial and e-commerce industries, will see belting output increase by 50 percent, according to the company.

Officials anticipate the expansion being completed by the end of 2022.

“This expansion is critical to support the strong growth we’ve experienced in the last few years. With the new facility, we will rapidly increase our production and assembly capacity,” said Intralox President Edel Blanks. “We look forward to expanding our local workforce with the added benefit of meeting the increased demand of our customers around the world.”

According to company officials, the Hammond plant will keep its 187 positions and create 425 direct new jobs for a $10 million increase in payroll. Non-technical, technical and engineering roles will be included in those newly created positions.

An estimated 582 indirect jobs will be retained for the project, creating over 1,000 new jobs in Louisiana’s southeast region, according to Louisiana Economic Development.

Gov. John Bel Edwards took a break from talking about the hurricanes, COVID, floods and winter storms that have plagued Louisiana over the past couple years to join company representatives and local officials in Thursday’s celebration of Intralox’s major expansion.

“What better way to commemorate this milestone anniversary than with a renewed commitment to our state and her people,” Edwards said. “The 425 direct new Intralox jobs in Hammond will result in increased economic activity, and tremendous success for this homegrown company.”

Intralox, a division of Laitram, expanded its molding operation at the Hammond plant by 60,000 square feet in 2017. In 2019, an automated warehouse was added.

The announcement comes on the heels of another major local economic development expansion. Last week, S&W Wholesale officials announced plans to invest $12 million in developing a new 100,000-square-foot multi-temperature wholesale food distribution center off the Pumpkin Center exit of I-12 in Tangipahoa Parish.

Intralox officials commended Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller and Ginger Cangelosi, executive director of Tangipahoa Economic Development, for helping make the process easier.
